First time trial, Still Slow

First time trial of the season last Wednesday.
5km skate by headlamp.
Despite more and better training, I was disappointed to find that my time was not significantly faster than last year.
Conditions were fast and icy. I fell during warmup and landed pretty hard on my hip. After that I skied conservative on the downhills which no doubt contributed to a slower time.

Opportunities for improvement:
1) Improve skate technique
2) Learn to hold good technique despite icy conditions with bumps, ruts, crowns, and divots on the course
3) Find ways to ski fast despite the possibility of a painful fall on an icy course
4) Ski faster and more smoothly through transition and corners
